HALLMARK SECURITY LEAGUE

FIRST DIVISION NORTH

27/3/2019

GARSTANG 3 AFC DARWEN 0

Darwen never got their passing game going tonight on a bumpy pitch, as Garstang took their chances to win the match.

The game started slowly as over twenty minutes had gone by before the first shot on target, when Elliot Pond hit a post from thirty yards out. A pass from Kallum Banks then found Pond, who set up Danny Taylor, with his shot being parried away by Will Kitchen in the Garstang goal.

On the half hour, Garstang’s Ric Coar burst down the middle and as Josh Cosgrove came out he put the ball past the Darwen keeper, but wide of the post.

With less than ten minutes of the half to go, Garstang took the lead as a Darwen corner was cleared upfield. A ball down the wing and into the box was blocked to Alan Coar, who fired into the net through a crowd of players.

From the kick-off, the ball was down the other end with Danny Taylor again denied by Kitchen in goal. The home side came close to extending their lead in injury time as a Tom Graham effort flew past the upright.

Half Time: Garstang 1 AFC Darwen 0

Three minutes into the restart Garstang had a good chance which was ballooned over the bar. Four minutes later Darwen came close when Elliot Pond set up Leon Creech, whose drive brought out a brilliant save from Kitchen. Luke Jarrold then beat the keeper with a header, but the goal was ruled out for possible offside. Kitchen made another good save as he pushed away an Elliot Pond strike.

It was against the run of play when Garstang doubled their lead. A quick break down the wing was followed by a cross into the box. Darwen had several chances to clear the danger but didn’t, and Tom Graham pounce to score. Later, another Garstang chance was well stopped by Josh Cosgrove.

The home side sealed the win with less than ten minutes to go. Another break saw Darwen stretched with a cross finding Ric Coar unmarked in the box to stroke the ball home.
