HALLMARK SECURITY LEAGUE
FIRST DIVISION NORTH
CARLISLE CITY 1 AFC DARWEN 3
This was another fine performance by Darwen, who although without several first team squad members absent, maintained their unbeaten away record in the League with this victory over the side from Carlisle. Jordan Gidley was making his debut in goal for Darwen.
The visitors opened with several shots on target including a great strike from Danny Taylor which produced an equally good save from Carlisle keeper Stephen Townsley. Taylor then cut into a pass from Jamie Edwards and as the keeper advance he chipped the ball over Townsley, just clearing the bar. Townley saved the home side again as he quickly rushed from goal to put his body in the way of a Nyle Ellis effort after being put through by Taylor.
Townsley was there again to push a Matt Cain blast over the bar for a corner. As the hour approached he managed to grab onto a Nyle Ellis drive from thirty yards out. Darwen’s new keeper had little to do in the first period but was forced into action to push away a Carlisle effort from a corner with eight minutes of the half to go.
It looked like the first half would end goalless, but on forty five minutes a Jamie Edwards cross was headed onto the bar by Elliot Pond. The ball rebounded out to Danny Taylor who rifled the ball home to give Darwen a first half lead.

People were still taking their seats for the second half when Darwen extended their lead. Straight from kick-off the visitors went on the offensive and bundled a goal in courtesy of Jamie Edwards.
The home side weren’t out of it yet as Jordan Gidley had to block a chance from Robert McCartney. Both players were involved again twenty minutes in as a Carlisle cross to the far post was struck goalwards by McCartney but Gidley bravely got in the way.
Four minutes later, Darwen came close as Elliot Pond squeezed past Townsley to make contact with a low cross but saw his sliding attempt rebound off the post. Pond then sent another effort past the post.
Against the run of play, the home side pulled a goal back with just over ten minutes of the game to go. A ball came over from the wing, took a deflection, and Thomas Lucock happened to find himself in the right spot to tuck the ball into an empty net.
The visitors sealed victory in stoppage time as Carlisle were pushing up to get something from the game. They exploited gaps in the home defence on several occasions. Finally, Jamie Edwards crossed from the left, Kahiel Crosdale’s shot was blocked by Townsley, but Leon Creech followed up and netted to confirm Darwen’s victory.
