HALLMARK SECURITY LEAGUE
AFC DARWEN 0 BARNOLDSWICK TOWN 4
After a rousing performance on Saturday against the league leaders, Darwen produced a very disappointing display tonight against a team only four places above them at start of play.
The visitors were the better side throughout the match and started brightly. Both teams had shots on target in the first few minutes, but before ten minutes were up, Barnoldswick had a two goal lead.
In the seventh minute Harry Thompson cut through several defensive tackles to fire past Steven James in the Darwen goal, and a minute later, after Darwen lost the ball from the kick-off, Zack Dale repeated the move.
In the twentieth minute, Thompson robbed a Darwen defender and put a low cross along the goal line which Striker Mark Threlfall just failed to connect with. A pass from Kiel Lonsdale put Bobby Langford clear down the wing, but as he cut in, his drive was under hit, allowing visiting keeper Connor King to block.
On the half hour, a few minutes pressure from the home side meant that Barnoldswick had to clear the ball off the line in quick succession. With five minutes of the half to go Barnoldswick took a corner short, catching the home defence, but Steven James made a great stop at the foot of the post to prevent another goal. Three minutes later the visitors came closer when Dale carved his way down the wing to push the ball to the far corner. Threlfall, unmarked, got a foot to the cross but screwed it wide.

Darwen came out more determined in the second half as a Bobby Langford effort hit the side netting. Twenty minutes in, a Barnoldswick corner was headed against the crossbar. Then, a low shot from the edge of the box was seen at the last minute by Steven James, who pushed the ball away for a corner.
A Sidi Fofana screamer from thirty yards out was tipped over the bar by Connor King. From the corner, Kiel Lonsdale set up Luke Cassidy and his powerful effort was gathered at the second attempt by King. Halfway into the second period Harry Thompson got clear and lifted the ball over Steven James, only to see it bounce off the crossbar.
The visitors were always in control and increased their lead with ten minutes to go when a ball from the Barnoldswick half found Harry Thompson who jigged through the Darwen defence to fire past James. Two minutes later it was nearly four as a shot was cleared off the line, with Steven James saving the rebound. Another minute and James again was there to stop a shot on the line. Darwen man of the match Steven James then made a great two handed save to deny Jake Townsend from the edge of the box.
As the game went into injury time, a free kick from inside the visitor’s half found Mark Threlfall upfield. He carved his way through the Darwen backline, as had happened too many times throughout the match, and placed his shot wide of the Darwen keeper to complete the scoring.
