HALLMARK SECURITY LEAGUE
CAMMELL LAIRD 4 AFC DARWEN 1
This league win by Cammell Laird was their first of the season, having drawn 8 and lost 26 of their previous 34 games. It was only their second competitive win of the season, their first being in the FA Cup in August against – AFC Darwen. If they had not won today they would have been relegted to the first Division.
The visitors had expected to win this match going by their recent form and a win would have gone a long way to guarantee their stay in the Premier League, but Darwen did not produce the performance that was required.
The home side went on the attack and a dangerous move was foiled by Adam Douglas. Darwen then had a good effort on target by Cunliffe from a Karl Turner pass. A deflection the put Conor Gaul in but Leigh in the Lairds goal read the situation and came out to block.
Alex Ralph saw his effort just go wide from a Declan Cunliffe cross, and at the other end Jordan Scott got in a tackle to prevent a possible goal.
Although Darwen were in control of midfield, a defensive blunder saw Macinnes put Nugent through and he rounded Ben Proctor, but the keeper recovered to save. Burston then played a long ball to put in Mason, but Proctor made an excellent block.
Darwen took the lead with ten minutes of the half to go. Alex Ralph floated in a free kick and Oliver Brirchall, unmarked, headed home. Mohammed Nabeel then got a head to a Birchall free kick but not on target.
On the stroke of half time, Cammell Laird equalised. Lomax crossed for Nugent and Macinnes headed in.

Burston put the home side in front ten minutes in with a side foot from a Lomax pass.
Home keeper Leigh then made a vital block with his feet to deny Alex Ralph who had run through the defence. Ralph then put over a cross which beat Leigh but not the crossbar.
Ben Proctor made a great save to push the ball away for a corner, and at the other end a long shot was tipped over the bar by Leigh for a Darwen corner.
