NELSON 1 AFC DARWEN 2

Darwen came away with a deserved victory away to local rivals on a drizzly night in Nelson. Keith Wedge, Bobby Langford, and Anthony Lynch were back in the starting line-up.
Nelson had the first shot on target after five minutes, a twenty five yarder comfortably gathered by Ben Proctor, but then went ahead thirteen minutes later. Nelson keeper Daniel Leaver booted a back pass upfield, which was well controlled by Corey Cook, and his power strike just outside the box into the top corner gave Proctor no chance.
Shots on target by Conor Gaul and Mohammed Nabeel were blocked by the Nelson defence, followed by a diving header by Nabeel onto the post from a Karl Turner cross. On the half hour Bobby Langford broke through to set up Nabeel but his effort was bravely blocked by Leaver, who had rushed from goal. Karl Turner put the loose ball wide of the post.
With ten minutes of the half left, Alex Ralph cut in from the left to scuff a shot towards goal. Leaver saw it late but just scrambled to push the ball sideways. Bobby Langford was there to put the ball into the net but was flagged offside. Four minutes later a Nabeel effort was kicked off the line. With two minutes to go Conor Gaul saw a powerful drive just clear the bar.
In injury time Nelson created a chance when a short corner was put low across the goal area line but nobody got a touch to it.
Half Time: Nelson 1 AFC Darwen 0

Fifteen minutes after the restart Yves Zama got through the Darwen defence but his effort was well palmed away by Ben Proctor.

A minute later Darwen equalised as a through ball found Bobby Langford, who beat off defenders, rounded the keeper, and fired home. Two minutes later the striker was put through again but Daniel Leaver rushed out of goal and Langford could only hit the ball straight at him.

Conor Gaul then worked an opening, beating the keeper, but struck the base of the upright. Two minutes later Bobby Langford put Gaul through and he again passed the keeper but the ball went just wide. With fifiteen minutes to go Conor Gaul was again through, but Nelson man of the match Daniel Leaver rushed out to bravely block again.

The visitor pressure finally told with four minutes to go. Conor Gaul put a great ball across from the left wing, Nelson couldn’t clear, and Bobby Langford headed in at the far post.
