HALLMARK SECURITY LEAGUE
HANLEY TOWN 3 AFC DARWEN 1
Darwen enjoyed more possession over the ninety minutes of this game, but due to lack of clinical finishing in the final third, could not turn that possession into any points. Several players were absent due to work commitments and illness, which meant that manager Adam Douglas had to switch some players out of their normal positions to compensate.
The first incident of note in the game didn’t arrive until the twenty first minute when Karl Turner floated a free kick from just inside the Hanley Town half into the box. Mohammed Nabeel got his head to the ball but glanced it wide. The next minute an Alex Ralph effort from outside the box was deflected away by a defender for a corner.
Hanley’s first chance occurred with twelve minutes of the half to go as Oliver Mellor heade a ball across goal from a cross, but the ball eluded everybody to run away for a goal kick.

Kiel Lonsdale suffered an injury from a kick in the back and had to be replaced by Liam Cole with the second half only three minutes old. Shortly after, Charles Goldstraw attempted to chip over Darwen keeper Ben Proctor, but Ben managed to get a hand to the ball and turn it over the bar.
The game finally burst into life when a free kick was awarded to Hanley for a foul ten yards outside the box on fifty three minutes. Dan Cope curled the kick into the top corner of the net to give the home side the lead.
The home side started to control the game, and eight minutes later Hanley doubled their lead as a cleared ball was put back into the area, and an Oliver Mellor header floated over Ben Proctor into goal.
Two minutes later, Darwen had a great chance to pull a goal back when a defence splitting ball put Conor Gaul through, but he put his strike over the bar with only the keeper to beat.
The visitors put themselves back in the game on sixty six minutes when a free kick was put into the box and Mohammed Nabeel was at the far post to slam the ball home.
The goal put new heart into Darwen and they gained the upper hand in the match again. A Jonathan McDonald effort was well held by Joe Hemmings in the Hanley goal, but as the visitors pushed for an equaliser, Hanley scored a decisive third when a kick from the halfway line found Dan Cope on the left hand side of the box, and his angled shot beat Proctor to finish in the opposite corner.
